Here’s our conversation with Alice—she’s 25, based in Eastern Washington, and has been using Curology since 2022. After dealing with stress, dry skin, and persistent cystic acne, she saw results that make her feel good in her own skin.

Nice to meet you, Alice. Nice to meet you. How long have you been using Curology? Three years now. How did you find out about Curology? It was on an Instagram ad. I just saw a lot of 'em. The algorithm knows what you want and at the time I was really having just bad skin problems. It was something I was looking up a lot, watching a lot, researching a lot, and so I got a lot of Curology ads on Instagram…what convinced me the most was the before and after pictures. I was like, that is a real before and after. There's no way that's a fake person or a fake before and after. You could tell it was a customer's real results. Were you using any other treatments before Curology? I was desperately trying anything. I had something prescribed once by a doctor and it wasn't for me. I have very sensitive skin and it was just too aggressive. I was in college when I started Curology, so I was on a very low budget. I tried lots of things, but I didn't have any success and that's why I've been using Curology for three years because that actually worked.
What problems were you experiencing with your skin before you started using Curology? My whole life I've had very dry skin, so just very, very dry, flaky skin and blackheads. I was very self-conscious about makeup because it doesn't go on dry skin well, so it was hard to cover up too. There was a lot of change happening in my life and I had a lot of stress, so I started getting really bad cystic acne that just would not go away. Once I got it, it just was like a year of it sticking around. Even though I had emotionally overcome the stress of all the new stuff, it just never went away…that's when I just became more desperate to find something. Between my regular skin issues and then the cystic acne, I was ready for change. How was the process of signing up for Curology? It was super easy. I mean, I know how to use a smart phone well enough, but it was super easy. It was very fun too. I love quizzes. I love being able to be like, yeah, this is me. Fix it, please. So yeah, super easy, very fun, very inviting. Do you still have interactions with your Curology provider? I've been using Curology for three years now, and recently, I was like, I think I want to upgrade or change my prescription, maybe add anti-aging. I feel like where we live now versus where we lived when I first got my prescription for Curology, the water's different. It's much drier. I just needed something more. The cystic acne is all gone. I don't need anything for that anymore. So whenever I wanted to upgrade or change my prescription, I'd reach out and I'd get help the same day, if not the next business day. Everything’s been great. Let's talk about your routine. Okay, so in the morning I wash my face with the Hydro+ Foaming Gel Cleanser. So good. I loved the original one, but then I was like, I'll try this and it's even better. After I wash my face, I apply the Barrier Balm. I don't know, I feel like I put this on after I wash my face and then by the time I get to work, I just am glowing and look fantastic.
In the evening time, I wash my face. Same thing with that. I use my prescription two to three times a week. I don't use it every day and the days I don't put this on, I put on the Cream Moisturizer. If I wear makeup, I use the Micellar Makeup Remover, which is also really good. I've loved every Curology product. I have the Acne Body Wash for my husband, the Gel Moisturizer for my sister. They're all good. What advice would you have for yourself three years ago based on your experience today? I guess at the time I really was so down on myself. My face was very important to me, I guess not in a vain way. It was very hard for me. I often didn't go out with friends. I was embarrassed of the way I looked. I just, when I say agonized, I mean agonized. I'd sit an inch away from the bathroom mirror and just pick apart my face physically and metaphorically, and be so upset and sad about it all the time. Obviously, there's so many more important things in life than having perfect skin. But, being able to come out of the worst of my skin to what I feel is the best it's ever looked...there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there are things that help. This is one of the best things that's ever happened to my confidence. I'm still the same girl. All the things that were important to me are still important to me today. I think I would've been kinder to myself and more patient with my circumstances knowing that everything takes its time and it's just a different wave of life and it'll be okay. I would've been a lot kinder to myself. Is there one word or a brief thought about what you're most proud of in your skin journey? It really works. That every product is good, that the formula works.
